National Museum of History in Chisinau

National Museum of History of Moldova was established in 1983. The building of the museum is a building of the first men’s Regional Lyceum in Bassarabia. In front of the museum there’s a copy of famous statue of Roman She-wolf with Romulus and Remus.

The museum includes 10 exhibition halls, 3 of which have domes, and diorama. It preserves almost 300 000 items which show visitors history and culture of Moldova (or what was on this territory) from ancient times till nowadays. About 165 000 of exhibits belong to national heritage of Moldova.

The museum owns archaeological and numismatic collections, collections of documents, photos, rare or old books, maps, arms, military equipment and lots more. It is proud for its unique exhibits:

Getae battle chariot ferrule of 4-5 century B.C.;

Olanesti treasure of 4 century B.C. The treasure includes bronze candlestick and vermeil Getae-Macedonian helmets;

Permanent exposition is located on the ground floor. It shows more than 4 000 items of historical value. These items tell visitors about eminent personalities, historical events, culture and every-day life on the territory of Moldova from Old Stone Age till 20 century.

The exposition is divided into the following sections: archeology and ancient history, Middle Age history, Bassarabia history, modern history, treasures and numismatics, diorama and temporary expositions.

The museum is located in the center of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. That's why it's easy to reach by public transport. If you go with a car it may be a bit difficult to find place for parking. Everyone who is interested in history of Moldova is welcome here every day except Mondays and official national holidays. The museum works from 9:00 to 17:00. Entrance fee required however it's not high. Guides are available.
